PIANIST O’CONOR IN YOUR OWN HOME

- By ALIS0N COMYN

WHILST the country may once again be subject to restrictions, this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the finest in live classical music from the comfort of your own home.

One of the best-known and regarded pianists of our time, John O’Conor makes a return visit to Drogheda to perform two of Beethoven’s infamous works, the mighty Pathétique and Moonlight sonatas.

Originally planned as a concert with a limited, socially distanced audience, with the country in Level 3 this is now not viable. The concert will instead be recorded behind closed doors in the beautiful setting of St Peter’s Church of Ireland and available to watch online via Vimeo from your favourite armchair from Saturday October 17th at 7:30pm for just €10.

The Arts have been severely hit by COVID-19, so by purchasing an online ticket, you can make a direct contribution to the future of Drogheda Classical Music to ensure we can continue to bring the best classical music talent to Drogheda.

Having studied in his native Dublin, in Vienna with Dieter Weber and being tutored by the legendary Wilhelm Kempff, John won 1st Prize at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna in 1973, which undoubtedly opened the door to a career that has brought him all around the world.

One of the many accolades for his recordings of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas was that he “should be recognised as the world’s premier Beethoven interpreter”.

The concert will be approximately 45 mins in duration, without an interval.
