GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Congratulations to Harry and Pat Smith from Ardee Street, Collon who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday the 3rd of October last. Harry, a native of Slane, and Monica ‘Pat’ Walsh from Starinagh Road, Collon were married in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Collon and had their reception in the Neptune Hotel in Bettystown. The couple spent their honeymoon in Liverpool. It was hoped to have a party for family and friends but due to the Coronavirus Pandemic this was not practical, so the

couple celebrated with a family meal in daughter Andrea’s house in Ardee.

All their family and friends congratulate them on this milestone and wish them all the best for the future. And so say all of us!

Offering. The CEP is administered by Meath Co. Council’s LCDC (Local Community Development Committee).

COMHGHAIRDEAS SYDDAN

Syddan came through by a two point margin to annex the Premier Football Championship Div. 5 Title and the inaugural Micheal O’Brien Cup, defeating Skryne to do so.

Looking down the team sheet, it is obvious that the indigenous Family names associated with this great rural club, Syddan, are still alive and contributing, as their ancestors did. The scoreline read: Syddan 2-13, Skryne 2-11. Comhghairdeas aris to our neighbours over the road!

GARDA VAL RETIRES

Garda Val Smith, Slane, has recently retired from An Garda Siochana after 32 years service. In Slane since 1992, Val served in Dundalk, Dromad, Athboy and Navan also. A popular Community Garda who was always willing to help, we wish him all the best in his retirement. Many years of health and happiness to you Val.

BIRTHDAY WISHES

Best Birthday Wishes to Declan and Dennis who celebrated their birthdays, (on the same day we believe) recently. It’s a good job that there is a little rain about, it’s as wet as the celebrations will get this year. We’ll celebrate big time next year when we get the Covid fix.

LOCAL BUSINESSES DESERVE SUPPORT

Please continue to support the local Traders that are still open for business

HOME FIRE SAFETY CHECK

This Service provided by Meath Co. Council’s Fire Service is temporarily suspended because of the Covid Pandemic, and will resume in some form when it is safe to do so. It is a great service that is free of charge and is aimed at improving Fire Safety in the Home, and increasing awareness of the necessity to carry out checks to ensure that your home is as safe as possible. One frequently asked question in respect of Fire Safety in the Home is: What are some basic home fire safety considerations? Home fire safety checklist

•Electrical appliances

•Open fires and heaters

•Cooking – inside and out

•Always keep matches and lighters well away from children.

•Only working smoke alarms save lives, check the smoke alarm regularly,

•Install smoke alarms just outside the sleeping areas of your home so that the alarm sounds before smoke reaches anyone who is asleep.

A Family discussion on the above Checklist is worth consideration. It could save a life.

AGM POSTPONED

The Annual General Meeting of Broomfield & District Residents Association that normally takes place around this time has been postponed due to the Covid restrictions and in keeping with Public Health Guidelines.
