Three Louth people included in 1,000 happy DCU graduates

Three Louth people were included in almost 1,000 graduates who received their parchments during the Spring Graduation Ceremony in the DCU Campus on Friday April 5th.

Darren Gallagher from Drogheda, received a Higher Diploma in Children’s Nursing, Aimee Sheridan, Dundalk received a MA in History and Sgt Major Shane McEneaney from Dundalk, Louth 27th Inf Batt received a MA in Internatio­nal Security and Conflict Studies.

Three ceremonies took place in the Mahony Hall in The Helix featuring students from the university’s five faculties; the DCU Business School, the Institute of Education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science & Health, and the Faculty of Engineerin­g & Computing.

This year sees the first graduates from the Master of Science in Health and Social Inclusion, the Graduate Diploma in Social, Personal and Health Education/ Relationsh­ips and Sexuality Education, Máistir Ealaíon i Léann na Gaeilge agus Máistir Eolaíochta sa Bhainistío­cht agus Gnó Digiteach.

Speaking ahead of the first ceremony, Prof Dáire Keogh, President of Dublin City University said: “The graduation ceremony is one of the most important occasions in the DCU calendar. The conferring of awards provides an opportunit­y for the University community to focus, with pride, on its very purpose – to educate our young people to the highest standards and to equip them with the skills and attributes required to thrive and contribute positively to our wider society.”

During his speech to graduates, he said: “The world is going through a period of unpreceden­tedly rapid change and we face many global challenges. However, most of these problems are man made, and it is up to humanity to solve them.

“I am confident that you, our graduates, will play your part in bringing about positive change - delivering on the DCU mission ‘to transform lives and societies’ in your communitie­s, in your profession­s, in our wider society.”

The President also reiterated his call for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate release of all hostages.
