JULIANSTOWN TIDY TOWNS

Work is continuing in the Community Garden with weeding of the large beds and many of the grassed areas have been given their first haircut. We have a policy in the garden not to cut the grass too often so as to give the wildflowers a chance to bloom and spread their seed. This in turn helps feed our wild bees as they are emerging from their winter nests. Please plant some pollinating flowers to help save our wild bees.

An Taisce National Spring Clean Event will take place in Julianstown on Saturday 13th April and during this day all the roads leading to Julianstown will get a good Spring Clean! We always get a great turnout for this event and hope to see you, your family and friends all taking part. Gloves, High Vis Jackets, Litter Pickers and bags will be suppled on the day. Light refreshments served on the day.

THE LOSS OF A PRICELESS ANTIQUE – PADDY BYRNE

A jewel of a man who carried many talents and titles with humble disposition.

Once a Sailor who navigated the seas, drawing breath from the ocean to feed the soulful song of his spirit.

An Antique Dealer almost hidden for decades amongst his precious “hoard of history” in the old cobbled streets of Bachelors lane, Drogheda

A husband and father most content whilst fire gazing into the warm hearth of his home, surrounded by the sound of his family.

A Painter Extraordinaire, with a brush in hand Paddy annually transformed the cottage walls into canvases, whitewashing them with precision and pride.

A green fingered Gifted Gardner who created a sanctuary of vibrant colour and growth which lit up and popped the heart of the Mosney Road.

A Tobacco Lover, amidst the swirl of smoke Paddy indulged in the simple pleasure of a well rolled cigarette, savouring each puff as if it held secrets to the past.

A Community Socialite, perched on a local bar stool with a pint in one hand and a pair of spoons in the other waiting patiently for his chance to unleash the longest story in living memory through 20 verses of a song, upon those fallen victim to the circle. Rest in Peace Paddy Byrne ….We will miss you at your own funeral. (written beautifully by Mog Downey)
