ESB put on a show for the town

The first large scale exhibition and demonstration of domestic electrical appliances to be staged since the emergency will be held at the Whitworth Hall, Drogheda, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next.
The exhibition. which is being sponsored by the Electricity Supply Board in conjunction with local electrical traders, will open each day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.’ and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and working demonstrations of the equipment will be given on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, while a special matinee will be provided on Thursday afternoon.
A charge of 1/- will be made for admission to these demonstrations and the proceeds will be given to the Medical Missionaries of Mary. Admission ‘tickets will be numbered and a draw will take place each evening for prizes which will consist of items of electrical equipment.
School boys and girls are being specially catered for at the exhibition, and the senior pupils of St. Patrick’s, Greenhills College, and the Sacred Heart Convent, have been invited to visit the Show on Wednesday morning, while the boys from St. Mary’s National School and the Christian Brothers’ School, will sec it on Wednesday afternoon. In case the boys’ interest might pall at mere housewifery, a special programme of films has been arranged for them; Included among the prizes which will be awarded to the winners of free draws at each performance are electric kettles, irons, fires, milk warmers and toasters. Other prizes will also be “on offer for competitions at the various stands.
The exhibition and demonstrations will have a big appeal for housewives. The appliances on ‘display will include cookers, Washing Machine, with its power wringer, will be one of thct items on demonstration. Capable of taking 8 lbs. of clothes, it can deal with the average household wash in a matter of minutes.
