THE result from Saturday’s Spring League nine-hole competitio­n was as follows:

1st Sandra White 16pts, 2nd Marie Kelly 14pts.

DUNDALK

A STORMING front nine, kicked off with a birdie on the par four first hole for four points, saw Peter Cunningham (18) claim the overall winner’s prize in the 18-hole singles stableford competitio­n the weekend before last with 48 points.

Peter followed his impressive start with a string of three-pointers from the second to the fifth holes and added another three points on the par three ninth hole to turn on 25 points.

On the back nine Peter parred the first three holes for a succession of three-pointers and pars at the par four 14th and par three 17th added two more three-pointers to see him complete the back nine on 23 points.

The runner-up was last year’s Captain Noel Reid (21) on 44 points after a solid round that included a birdie three at the eighth hole for four points.

Dennis Cunningham (10), with a better back nine by one point, edged out Kevin Redmond (11) for the Division 1 prize as both finished on 40 points. The other divisional honours went to Stephen Murphy (15) and Larry Curtin (22).

The bank holiday open sSingles stableford competitio­n was won by Mark Cumiskey (10) with 42 points. His round included three-pointers with pars at the first and third holes and a birdie at the par five sixth hole to turn on 20 points.

His back nine included a birdie at the par five 10th hole for three points and birdies at the par five 12th and par four 15th for four-pointers and a closing par for three points at the last to finish strongly on 22 points.

A super second round of 65 saw Caolan Rafferty emerge victorious for the second time at the recent Laytown & Bettystown Senior Scratch Cup, adding to his previous win in 2022. Caolan had 10 birdies and an eagle over the 36 holes of the tournament and only one bogey, He played the last 27 holes in a remarkable 11 under par.

RESULTS from the 18-hole stableford competitio­n held on March 30 and April 2 were as follows:

Div 1 winner Pauline Campbell (13) 35pts, 2nd Elaine Ward (14) 35pts, 3rd Elizabeth McGuinness (21) 34pts; Div 2 winner Sinead O’Callaghan (28) 36pts, 2nd Maura Coyle (30) 33pts, 3rd Geraldine Hoare (27) 33pts; Div 3 winner Joan McKenna (37) 34pts, 2nd Dara Murphy (49) 33pts, 3rd Denise Morrison (5) 32pts.

Nine-hole competitio­n: 1st Olive Lowth (15) 19pts, 2nd Teresa Byrne (22) 18pts.

GREENORE LADIES

WE commenced our 18-hole season with a scotch foursomes on the Saturday before last and Laura McSorley and Rita Mulligan emerged as the winners by a very comfortabl­e margin with a net score of 71.6.

The winner of the final winter competitio­ns in March - on the 23rd - wasa Clodagh McCarthy with 19 points, while the March 21 winner was Monica Mullen with 23 points.

The March 9 winners were Jane Fegan (26pts) in Category 1 and Fionnuala Gaffney (21pts) in Category 2.

On March 7 the Category 1 winner was Barbara Holland (29pts) and Category 2 went to Maria Califf, also with 29 points.

MANNAN CASTLE

SENIORS Captain Denis Murphy held his drive-in on Tuesday of last week on a beautiful dry day.

Denis had a very successful drive witnessed by a large gathering of his fellow seniors, accompanie­d by much slagging and craic.

In the following four-man scramble over 10 holes there was a very tight finish, with only one shot separating the first six teams.

The winning team, by a margin of 0.1 points, was Paul Hollywood (7), Graeme Woodcock (9), Arthur Mulholland (10) and Brian Flanagan (15).

The second-placed team of Con Hanneffy (6), Joe O’Hara (8), Sean Harvey (11) and Gerry Cumiskey (15) were in turn only 0.5 points ahead of the team comprising Philip McGovern (6), Tony Rooney (8), Declan Govern (9) and Philip McEntee (12).

During the presentati­on the large turnout was thanked by Denis for supporting his drive-in and he hoped to see them all enjoy a friendly round of golf during the coming months.

Everyone relaxed in a friendly atmosphere after the golf, enjoying the tea, coffee and baked goods provided by Evelyn Brady.

A wet bank holiday Monday saw a decent turn-out for our two-person team event.

Taking first place was Paul Shannon and Terry Kiernan with a score of 46 points. The pair dovetailed perfectly, shooting 23 points on the front nine and coming home with another 23.

In second place was Vice Captain Joe O’Hara and Paddy Byrne who shot a score of 44 points. Paddy played some outstandin­g golf throughout but had Joe to fall back on, chipping in when needed.

The Men’s Winter League final standings are as follows:

Division 1: 1st John Clarke 167pts; T2nd Barry Hand, Oran Martin & John Hand - 163pts.

Division 2: 1st George Farrelly - 181pts; 2nd Joe Liffey - 177pts; 3rd Rory Lennon - 165pts.

Division 3: 1st Kevin Gavigan - 199pts; T2nd Vincent Duffy, Joe McGeown & Eamonn Murphy 174pts.

Congratula­tions to all the winners. The presentati­ons will take place in due course and each winner will be notified in advance.

In the mixed tee singles stableford held over the Easter weekend, our overall winner was Kevin Gavigan who shot an incredible 49 points on the Saturday. Kevin has been playing extremely well over the last few months.

A two under par round for Darragh Kelly on Easter Sunday morning was good enough for him to win Division 1. Darragh played a very solid round, with 17 pars and an eagle on the 14th hole. The runner-up was James McGeown who shot a good score of 41 points.

Division 2 was won by George Farrelly who shot a score of 40 points. George has been very consistent of late and showed it again. David Gonnelly finished in second place with a score of 39 points.

Tom Fahey won Division 3 with a great score of 43 points. With 22 points on the front nine, Tom set himself up well for a fine score on the Sunday afternoon. Martin McCaul finished in second place with a score of 42 points.

We had another outstandin­g score in Division 4, with Micheal Hanratty shooting 48 points. Micheal shot 26 on the front nine and came home with 22. The runner-up was Graeme Woodcock who shot a score of 43 points.

MANNAN LADIES

The weather really didn’t cooperate, with so much precipitat­ion, and it would have been easy to get disillusio­ned, but the ladies managed to get out most weeks and play for their team.

A huge thanks to our sponsor for coming on board, and thank you to Frances Molloy for coming out to make the prize presentati­on on Easter Saturday.

Spring League overall standings: 1st Team Waltz (Lady Captain Carol McMahon, Vice Lady Captain Angela Evers, Margaret Carroll, Cepta Maddick and Rose O’Reilly); 2nd Team Team Jive (Brianne Kingham, Maureen Crawley, Geraldine Finnegan, Denise McGuinness, Evelyn Brady).

The Spring League category winners were Rita O’Loughlin (0 to 22.4) and Margaret Bourke (22.5 to 54).

After more rain fell on Tuesday night of last week, our 18-hole competitio­n on Wednesday was reduced to 11 holes. Still, there were some great scores, with two ladies on 25 points.

Marie Finnegan, the winner, didn’t score on the first hole, but she turned her card around with six pars and a superb birdie on the 4th hole.

In second place was Margaret Bourke, who continued her season with some solid golf, including an excellent birdie on the 3rd hole.

Loraine Delkos had two birdies on her card to claim third place with 23 points.
