Chastening defeat for 15s against mighty Rovers

-

DROGHEDA United will be hoping for a better result when they make the long trip to Finn Harps this weekend after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of EA

Sports U15 League leaders Shamrock Rovers at DIFE on Saturday morning.

The Boynesiders started strongly and defended well, while ’keeper Dylan Sheridan made some excellent stops, but Rovers eventually opened the scoring after 20 minutes.

Drogheda were unfortunate not to grab an equaliser after some good link play on the right-hand side involving Cormac Dolan and Jack Richmond led to a chance for striker Josh Harpur in behind the defence, but the Rovers ’keeper came out well to deny the number nine.

Rovers went into the break with just that slender advantage, but they put Drogheda under the cosh on the restart and showed why they’re on top of the league table, adding a brace of further goals during a 10-minute period to effectively put the outcome beyond any doubt.

The determined young Drogs continued to push and they went close to pulling one back when a corner kick from Robbie Dennehy flew across the six-yard box, just out of reach of two players at the back post.

However, Drogheda just didn’t get the rub of the green in front of the sticks and it was Rovers who added to their tally with one further goal to put some gloss on the scoreline from their point of view, as well as strengthing their hold on top spot in the League of Ireland U15 standings. DROGHEDA UNITED: Dylan Sheridan, Excel Imade, Calvin Winters, Sebastian Hudziak, Erik Tolbi, Dylan Kelly, Ewan Fox, Robbie Dennehy, Cormac Doran, James O’Neil, Ewan McCole, Cillian Duff, Jack Richmond, Josh Harpur.
