JULIANSTOWN TIDY TOWNS
Work is continuing in the Community Garden with weeding of the large beds and many of the grassed areas have been given their first haircut. Kevin did a lovely job strimming the grassed area near the bus stop. Someone is locking their bicycle to the pole on top of the flower bed near the bus stop, and we would ask that they don’t do this as it will destroy the flowers which are beginning to grow there. We have a policy in the garden not to cut the grass too often so as to give the wildflowers a chance to bloom and spread their seed. This in turn helps feed our wild bees as they are emerging from their winter nests. Please plant some pollinating flowers to help save our wild bees. We always welcome new volunteers, even if only available occasionally. Please feel free to join us at the Community Garden any Saturday morning at 10.30 am.
An Taisce National Spring Clean was a great success in Julianstown. We had over 30 volunteers take part in this annual event. It is amazing to see that we filled a very large skip, despite the fact that we carry our regular weekly and sometimes daily litter picks in the village. Unfortunately, persons unknown are still dumping rubbish on the back roads and the Sandy Hall Road is particularly bad. However, Meath County Council Environment Officer is aware of this, and action is being taken to stop this fly tipping! Many thanks to Meath Co. Council for supplying the skip, bags, litter pickers and gloves. We would also like to thank An Taisce National Spring Clean for their continued support by way of equipment and organising this annual event. We also thank our Tidy Towns Committeeand volunteers for their endeavours in keeping our village tidy, and litter free. Well done all!
MONTHLY MEETING
Julianstown & District Community Association & Julianstown Tidy Towns monthly meeting takes place in Church of Ireland, Laytown Road on 8th May, 2024 at 7.30 p.m. We welcome new members. If you would like to join committee, please come along.
Members of our committee met with Eoin McNally, Executive Area Officer with Meath County Council and discussed the planting of a Christmas Tree on the grassed area in front of the woods. We are aware that there are drains, and ESB cables underground and that the tree needs to be planted where it won’t block traffic emerging from the Ballygarth Road. We raised the issue of Traffic Calming for the village and it is still on hold pending Irish Water upgrading the water supply from Drogheda and all the way up the Moorechurch Road. Traffic will be a nightmare when this happens!
The grass cutting cannot be done at the woods due to the fact that the School Contractors have not left the ground in a level condition, and Meath Co. Co. will get on to them to complete the work properly. Pot holes and the subsidence of the road at the junction of the Laytown and Main Road were also spoken about and hopefully they will be soon repaired.

ST. MARY’S CHURCH OF IRELAND
Church Services for April are: 28th April: Morning Prayer.
The Charity Appeal for April will go to the Paediatric Ward in
Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where Heather is nurse manager. The ward caters for many children from the area when they are in need
Looking ahead: Many parents are busy with taking children to activities on Sunday mornings and some have asked for an afternoon service. We will have such a service on Sunday 12 th May at 2.00pm. It will last around 30 minutes and will be suitable for all ages (and will be held in addition to the morning service). With plenty of advanced notice, hopefully this will be well supported and in particular by those families who find coming to church on a Sunday morning challenging.
ST. MARY’S AND ST. PATRICK’S PARISHES
