FERNS MAN IS JAILED FOR DEALING DRUGS
CHRISTOPHER RYAN (20) with an address at Clone Lane in Ferns but currently resident at the Midlands Prison was convicted of drug dealing.
Sitting at the District Court in Gorey, Judge Gerard Haughton sentenced him to four months in jail for having methylenedioxymethylamphetamine for sale or supply to others.
Sergeant Gary Rayner reckoned that the total value of the various controlled drugs found on Ryan on the night in question was €800.
The court also learned that the defendant had previous convictions on his record imposed in London for similar offences and for armed robbery.
He was now in custody awaiting sentence in the Circuit Court on a serious charge.
Solicitor David Tarrant said that when his client arrived in Ireland he had no medical card.
When Ryan did not get his medication he went off the rails, suggested Mr Tarrant.
The judge said that normally a sentence of seven or eight months would be merited but he handed down a shorter term after allowing for time spent in custody on remand.
