Enniscorthy Guardian - - NEWS -

LEAVING the scene of a road accident without providing the appropriate information has resulted in a fine of €1,000 for a Florin Dinu of Coolree, Ballindaggin.

The defendant was not present in court when Garda Vincent Downes gave evidence of attending to the scene of a crash at Bonnyville, Ballybreen, Killanne on May 2 of last year.

Garda Downes said that at the scene it appeared a vehicle had crashed into a residential wall. He said that, while the car had left the scene, some debris was left behind, including a registration plate. When he looked up the details, he found that Florin Dinu was the owner of the vehicle and called to him and questioned him about the incident.

Upon hearing all the evidence, Judge Haughton opted to convict Dinu in his absence. When asked if he had licence details for the defendant, Garda Downes responded that Dinu had told him that he did not have a licence.

Upon hearing this, Judge Haughton handed down a €1,000 fine and a three year driving ban.
