Man (55) to face trial on sexual assault charges
A 55-YEAR-OLD County Wexford man charged with intent to commit sexual assault has had his case sent forward to the next sitting of Wexford Circuit Court for trial.
The man was brought before Judge Gerard Haughton at the District Court. He was also charged with criminal damage to a set of earphones to the value of €45 on the same day - March 15 last - at the same location.
A book of evidence was served on the man, who cannot be identified to protect the anonymity of the alleged victim. Sgt Mairead Brophy informed the Judge that the DPP had directed that the case be sent forward for trial and he agreed to do this.
Catriona Walsh was appointed as legal aid and the judge also certified for one counsel. Ms Walsh made a request that the court order a psychological assessment be carried out on her client and Judge Haughton complied with this request before warning the defendant that if an alibi formed any part of his defence he had 14 days in which to furnish details to the prosecution. The case was then sent forward to the next sitting of Wexford Circuit Court.
