All-Ireland champs show off trophy

THE occasion of the annual Awards at St Mary’s CBS proved to be an extra special celebration for the CBS soccer team who managed to capture the Bank of Ireland FAI Schools Tom Ticher Junior National Cup earlier that day.

Following an impressive campaign, the team managed to overcome St Joseph’s College of Galway 1-0 at Home Farm FC to claim a historic win and bring the trophy to the Enniscorthy school for the very first time.

An extremely tight game, it took a moment of pure magic from Kieran Murphy to separate the teams and from there, the CBS lads had to soak up some unbelievable pressure with St Joseph’s pushing for the equaliser. Goalkeeper Sean Maher did everything in his powers to keep them at bay and was awarded man of the match for his efforts.

There were amazing scenes as captain Danny Bruce got to grips with the Tom Ticher trophy and the celebrations continued all the way home from Dublin and into the evening as the annual awards ceremony took place.

The lads were congratulated by Principal John Ryan who said that they had done the school proud in the efforts throughout the campaign.
