Active Retirement groups invited to get bowling

-

PREPARATIONS have begun for the fourth annual indoor bowls league run by a committee from County Wexford Active Retirement groups.

The format for the new season’s league was discussed at a gathering in Bree Community Centre and will be finalised at a meeting in the centre at 11 am on August 21 which is also the closing date for entries and the payment of €20 per team.

Over a dozen teams have already registered to take part and the committee is inviting other Active Retirement groups from around the county to enter the league which will run from mid-September to early February .

If a group wishes to enter two teams they need not worry that they will face each other as there are two divisions in the league.

Entries can be made to the com- petitions secretary Ray Fick on 086-3673056. New teams are encouraged to enter and will be assisted by experienced teams who are well versed in the rules which are adapted to the age and physical ability of the players as in previous years.

Last year, division one and division two were won by New Ross Active Retirement Association, the first time that the same club won both at both levels, and this year a strong challenge is expected from teams such as Oulart, Gorey, The Ballagh, Bree and Kilmore. The chairman of the league is Paddy Breen with Ray Fick as competitions secretary and Dave Hart in the treasurer’s role.

The position of secretary is vacant and the the league committee would welcome interest from any member wishing to take up the position.
