Retail units to be transformed into health care centre in Gorey town
A proposed Health Care Centre in Gorey has been given the green light by Wexford County Council.
The existing retail units beside Aldi on Esmonde St, Go- rey will be transformed into a Health Centre.
Planning permission was submitted in February for the much-needed development, which will comprise of 26 consulting rooms and some retail space.
The applicant, Thomas M Kennedy, will change the use from exiting retail to health care; remove the current plant room at roof level and replace it with an additional storey of accommodation; and extend the front and side of the building.
The former retail units, one and two, of the Aldi development have been unoccupied since the building was completed in 2006 and has been deemed redundant to Aldi’s development intentions.
The application states the area has been an eyesore at an important entrance point to the town since its completion.
The units will be a primary health care centre with a GP practise and include 127 square meters of retail space on the ground floors. The application also states there is no provision for on site parking. Give the town centre location and the availability of the parking in the immediate vicinity of the site, this is not likely to present a problem to the users of the building.
