‘Miracle’ nobody was hurt during 100km chase with motorcyclist

-

GARDAÍ from across the district were involved in a high-speed chase which took place over 100km and lasted nearly an hour on Monday night of last week.

The incident saw a man travelling on a motorcycle speed away from gardaí on the Gorey bypass at around 9.45 p.m. He was pursued and backup was called for, culminating in two patrol cars and a garda motorcycle following in pursuit.

Following what gardai described as ‘dozens of instances of dangerous driving’ which are believed to have included driving at high speeds and crossing onto the wrong side of the road, the chase eventually came to a conclusion at Ballyeden Davidstown, but not before the motorcylist, believed to be from the south of the county, caused damage to one of the patrol cars. He was arrested for drink driving at the scene and conveyed to Enniscorthy Garda Station.

A garda spokesman said that it was a miracle that nobody was hurt during the course of the incident. A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and a court appearance is to follow.
