The final of the golfer of the year sponsored by Pettitt’s SuperValu was played on Tuesday between Ollie Dempsey and Peter Corish.

Ollie had beaten Enda Lambert in the semi-final and Peter Corish had beaten John Byrne. Ollie was the victor and although this was his first victory in a Major, the form that he has produced during this season would indicate that this may not be the only Major that he will win.

Well done to Peter on getting to the final and to the other 30 players who qualified for the matchplay section.

Good luck to our All-Ireland fourball team members who play Malahide in the Leinster final at Tullamore next Sunday at 12 noon. This has been one of Wexford’s more successful tournaments, as in former years when this was confined to Leinster we have won it on two occasions.

Now that it has been expanded to an All-Ireland event, managers John French and Paul Hynes are hopeful that we will be successful in another Leinster final and go on to represent our province in the All-Ireland semi final. All support will be welcome.

Finally, well done to ‘Sheener’ Tighe for his work for the enviroment at our golf club during the recent dry spell.
