Clonroche amenity area suffers theft setback

Enniscorthy Guardian - - NEWS -

CLONROCHE Development Association along with Enniscorthy Gardaí are appealing for potential witnesses to a theft from the site of the new amenity area on Spout Road.

At some point on Thursday, nearly half a mile of rope was removed from the site by calloused thieves.

The rope was to be used for the purpose of pulling cables through for lighting and while the value of the rope is only approximately €50, the estimated cost of re-installation is in the region of €2,670, a devastating blow to the project.

In a statement issued by the Development Association, they said: ‘ This operation of stealing was not carried out in a few minutes, but took a considerable time. As many houses overlook the area, it is possible someone saw the culprits. We in Clonroche Development Association will appreciate any information we can get on this incident with a promise of anonymity. If we establish the identity of the perpetrators it is our intention to pursue, through the courts, for full costs.’

There was also a roll of cabling stolen from a roof in the facility. A spokesman for Enniscorthy Gardaí said that a full investigation was ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact them on 0539242580.
