N11 roadworks to run right up until Christmas week

-

MOTORISTS USING the N11 can expect headaches at peak traffic times until Christmas week as Wexford County Council begins Pavement Scheme works on the section from Kyle to Ferrycarrig.

Road users have, over the past number of weeks, been getting to grips with a new road layout, marked by traffic cones, and fluctuating traffic limit signs, but the main work is starting this week and will run until December 21.

Works began on September 12 on the Pavement Scheme with a forewarning that they would last for 13 weeks. The route was initially surveyed and drainage works were carried out. This week, an extra week and a half of work was tagged on to that initial time frame.

In a public alert, through MapAlerter, the council warned that a Stop/Go traffic management system would be in place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and said motorists could expect major delays at peak times.

Earlier in the year, a major redesign of Kyle Cross was carried out over the course of 12 weeks from late April, with the intention being to slow down the traffic at that major junction. The redesign has earned some criticism from locals who believe that the changed layout has actually made the crossroads more dangerous.

Approximately 13,000 cars use the road every day.
