TIDY TOWNS AGM

The Blackwater Tidy Towns AGM takes place on Thursday, November 29, 2108, 7 p.m. Blackwater Hall. Positions available for 2019: Vice-chairperson, treasurer, secretary, Public Relations Officer/Press Officer. Other possible roles: Assistant secretary, Fás/TÚS Overseer and Co-Ordinator.

BLACKWATER SONG PROJECT

Songs, poetry, ballads and recitation relating to the Blackwater area and its immediate environs will be sourced, researched, explored and performed over the course of an exciting new project entitled ‘By Land and Sea’. The project will be facilitated by traditional singer Aileen Lambert in association with the Wayside Players, Blackwater, with the support of Wexford County Council via the Creative Communities Programme.

You are invited to attend an Information Evening on Wednesday, November 7, in Blackwater Lodge Hotel where the project will be officially launched by Cllr Oliver Walsh. Singers Aileen Lambert and Senan Lillis will give a presentation on songs/recitations etc and sources already identified and it is hoped that new material may come to light on this evening and throughout the project – your contributions would be most welcome. As Aileen also has experience composing new airs the project would also be interested in any recitations or verse written locally which could be adapted to become a song.

Participants do not necessarily need to be singers, or indeed sing at all – as long as you have an interest in the project you are most welcome, as there will be roles for researchers and work in compiling lyrics, photos and background to the songs.

Participants will meet fortnightly, on Monday nights from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., to research material as well as sing the songs etc. The project will culminate with the production of a publication of Blackwater Songs with an accompanying CD of local singers entitled ‘By Land and Sea’, which will be launched at a concert in April 2019.

If you would like to find out more or get involved you can contact Kathleen Byrne or Senan Lillis, Wayside Players, Blackwater and check out Blackwater Song Project on Facebook.
