Enniscorthy man admits driving with drugs in his system

-

A father of two who had cannabinoids in his system when he was pulled up at Camolin admitted driving while intoxicated.

Mark Sludds (23) had an address at 173 Madeira Oaks, Enniscorthy on District Court paperwork. Solicitor Caitriona Walsh told Judge Gerard Haughton her client was in emergency accommodation in a B&B with his partner and the children.

Sludds also offered pleas of guilty to being on the road without insurance on the same July night when €10 worth of cannabis was found in his car. A small quantity of the same drug, valued at €15, was taken from him at the Waterfront during March.

Ms Walsh told the court that her client was trying to stay off cannabis but that he had smoked within the past fortnight.

The car impounded in Camolin was one which he had bought for €200.

The solicitor described the defendant as mild mannered, polite and quietly spoken.

Judge Gerard Haughton banned Sludds from driving for four years as he imposed concurrent four month prison sentences one for driving uninsured and a second for driving while under the influence of an intoxicant.

However, both terms were suspended as the defendant was offered an opportunity to carry out 100 hours of community service.
