Burglaries may be linked

-

ENNISCORTHY gardaí are examining the possibility that a new burglary gang may be operating in the area after a string of burglaries last week. The first incident took place at some point between last Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at Wilton, Enniscorthy. A sum of cash and a substantial amount of jewellery was taken after thieves gained entry through a window of the property.

Similarly, a house at Jamestown, Oylegate, was hit on Wednesday night between 8 and 10 p.m., the culprits again gaining entry through a window and making off with a sum of cash. Finally on Saturday night, between 8.30 and 10 p.m. a house in Tomnalossett was broken into, again through a window, and a sum of cash was taken.

Given the similarities, gardaí are refusing to rule out the possibility that the burglaries may be connected.

‘What we have here is three burglaries in a relatively close area,’ a garda spokesman said. ‘ There hasn’t been a whole lot of activity in these areas recently, so it is highly unusual. Either someone new has moved in on the area, or somebody just took a chance. Either way, we would urge people in the local area to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.’

The garda spokesman said that there was no particular target for these burglaries and they appeared to be largely opportunistic in nature. He also appealed for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact Enniscorthy Garda Station on 053 9242580 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666111.
