‘Embarrased’ at cannabis offence
A 64-YEAR-OLD woman from Ferns was said to have been ‘very embarrassed’ after she appeared before the District Court last week to answer to a charge of possessing cannabis at her home on January 19 of last year.
Colleen Bellward of Ballinakill, Ferns, was charged with the offence after a garda search at her home.
Solicitor David Tarrant said that his client regretted and was embarrassed by the incident. He said that she had not used cannabis since and would pass a urine test, should the court be minded to check this. He also pointed out that Bellward had no previous convictions.
Upon hearing all the mitigating factors, Judge Gerard Haughton agreed to apply the Probation Act.
