Community project comes to fruition as village park opens
THERE WAS joy for the people of Ballindaggin when their latest project, Ballindaggin Community Park was officially opened by Minister of State Paul Kehoe.
The Ballindaggin Development Group has been working tirelessly on the park for the past two years, fundraising and working hard to secure grant funding.
Group secretary Joe Walsh explained that they had secured €97,125 from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, €15,000 from Wexford County Council, and €15,000 in a Sports Capital Grant. They also raised €14,000 by holding a fundraiser at Enniscorthy Dog Track last year.
The park includes a walking track, a playing field, a playground and a picnic area. It is situated in the centre of the village, next to the primary school and opposite the church. It is the first recreational facility of its kind in the village.
The day began with Mass in the church which was said by Bishop Denis Brennan, following which the park was officially opened. A host of local politicians and dignitaries attended the event including: James Browne TD, Council Cathaoirleach Keith Doyle, members of Ennis- corthy Municipal District, District Manager Liz Hore, Bishop Brennan, Fr Jim Fegan, and Rev Ian Cruikshank.
Refreshments were served in the parish hall afterwards.
Mr Walsh expressed his thanks to all volunteers and those in the local community who had supported the project in any way.
