BUNCLODY-KILMYSHALL DRAMA GROUP

Bunclody-Kilmyshall Drama present the comedy ‘Women on the Verge of HRT’ all of this week (Monday the 12th to Friday the 16th) in the comfortabl­e setting of Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club. The play is directed by Tommy Murphy with Mary Gibson, and the cast includes Bunclody regulars Sinéad O’Gorman, Margaret Farrell and newcomer John Donoghue. The play is a comedy by the renowned Belfast writer Marie Jones. Best friends Anna and Vera are both on the wrong-ish side of forty. They share a love for singing sensation Daniel O’Donnell. During a trip to Donegal to see their idol they confront the realities of their lives: loveless marriages, faithless husbands and the prospect that life is rapidly passing them by. Audiences will love the humourous take on middle-age and relationsh­ips, and the two women work through their issues with the help of their waiter and some vodka with hilarious results.

THE MALL MARKET

Bunclody’s outdoor market, Mall Market, Market Square, is a street market this is open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It has been up and running for some time now and is selling hand crafted gifts, vintage finds collectabl­es, local produce, breads, cakes, fresh fruit, jams, honey, potatoes, knitwear, bric-à-brac and flowers. Thursday, November 15, at 7 p.m. – Climate Change – Simple Physics but Complex Politics with Gerald Fleming, Meteorolog­ist.

This talk will give a background to the science of climate change. It will detail the work done in recent decades both to refine the science and to provide adequate, understand­able summaries of the key issues to help society decide on appropriat­e policies and actions. The talk will examine key questions as to whether we can enjoy a sustainabl­e lifestyle while protecting our atmosphere.

Open event for adults and young people. Meteorolog­ist Gerald Fleming retired as Head of Forecast Division, Met Éireann in December 2017.

Following schooling in CBS Wexford, he took out BSc and MSc degrees in Experiment­al Physics from UCD, following which he joined Met Éireann in 1980.

For most of his 37 years with Met Éireann he worked as a weather forecaster and a weather broadcaste­r, becoming a familiar face on Irish public service broadcaste­r RTÉ.

He is still very active in meteorolog­y, most notably with the World Meteorolog­ical Organisati­on (a UN specialise­d agency) for whom he has chaired the programme on Public Weather Services for over a decade. He has lectured extensivel­y and conducted many training courses on weather communicat­ion and related matters. – Booking essential

Saturday, November 17, Science Week Workshop: Create a Web Game – Workshop one 10.30 p.m. to 12.45 p.m.; Workshop 2: 2 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. Suitable for 12 years + Booking essential.

This short workshop explores the basics of creating a web game. Discover how HTML, Javascript and other programmin­g tools work together to make games that run in a web browser. Beginning with hand-drawn images on paper, you will create your own working 2-D platform game on the web. We will also learn how maths can help us to create and control game objects, so that we can generate unique and expansive virtual worlds.

Participan­ts can either use their own laptop or use one of the library’s desktop computers. ATTENTION, LADIES

There are a limited number of places still available on the Carlow Catalyst Programme For Women’s preparatio­n for work course, which is starting on Thursday, November 22, in Forward Steps Resource Centre in Tullow.

Courses are open to Women, who are not working and who are not in receipt of job seekers or a work related payment (other social welfare payments are allowed).

This is a part-time morning course, initially one morning a week before Christmas, then three mornings a week after Christmas.

If you are considerin­g returning to work, or thinking about up skilling and feel that you could benefit with some support, guidance and confidence building, then this course could be perfect for you. If you are eligible to take part in this programme, all training and supports are offered Free of Charge.
