Wexford students to participate in WIT music programme
LEAVING certificate music students from schools throughout Co Wexford will be among 300 participants in upcoming workshops in Waterford Institute of Technology which will be facilitated by staff and students from the college’s BA (Hons) Music Programme in the Department of Creative and Performing Arts.
The event is due to take place on November 15, and the schools represented by students in attendance will include: FCJ Bunclody; Loreto Secondary School; St Peter’s College; Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School and the CBS Secondary School, New Ross.
They will be joined by students from schools in Waterford, Kildare, Dublin, Wicklow, Carlow and Tipperary, along with school representatives from Co Waterford.
The workshops will take place in the chapel of WIT’s College Street Campus and the visiting students’ attention will be focused on the Irish traditional elements of the leaving certificate exam.
There will be a live ensemble illustrating the points along with talks on practical performance including preparation, communication and programming.
Participants will have the opportunity to complete mock marking sheets for sample live performances.
A particular focus will be placed on music careers and as part of that a presentation will be given on BA (Hons) Music graduates and where they are now.
The visiting students will also be informed on what’s involved in studying music at third level. Live performances will also take place featuring students and staff from WIT culminating in a mass performance of ‘White Winter Hymnal’ by all of the attendees.
Commenting on the event the BA (Hons) Music programme leader, Dr Hazel Farrell, said: ‘We look forward to welcoming music students from around the country to WIT to share the amazing talent of our staff and students and enhance their journey through the Leaving Certificate music curriculum.’
