Rianna is Player of the Year!
WEXFORD YOUTHS striker Rianna Jarrett was named Women’s National League Player of the Year on Friday night, topping off what has been a fantastic, albeit unpredictable, year for the 24-year-old Wexford town girl.
Jarrett scored 27 goals in this year’s season, helping her side to a Women’s National League, an FAI Cup and Development Shield treble.
She togged out for the Youths in the Aviva two weekends ago, despite being an injury concern having suffered a fractured bone in her foot last month.
She was up against stiff competition in her category with team mates Lauren Dwyer and Kylie Murphy, as well as Peamount United’s Amber Barrett and Niamh Farrelly, and Galway’s Aislinn Meaney, all nominated as well.
Jarrett is a key member of Colin Bell’s Women’s National Team but she has been plagued with injury over the course of her career to date. In addition to October’s bone fracture, she has overcome three cruciate ligament injuries, all suffered before she turned 21.
Speaking at the awards, she said: ‘It has been a fantastic season for me personally but also for the whole team. To win the League, Cup and Shield is an outstanding achievement and this is a special group of players to play with. I had to work incredibly hard to get back from the injuries I’ve suffered over the years and to have a moment like this makes it all worth it.’
