Young artists feted by the Talbot Hotel
Four winners and four runners-up were awarded prizes in the Talbot Hotel Artist of the Year 2018 competition.
A special reception for all 20 finalists was held in the hotel with Deputy General Manager Paul Carr presenting the talented primary and secondary school students with their prizes.
The winner in the Primary School Category 1 was Amy Hatchell from CBS Primary School with Jerika Schmitt from St John of God, the Faythe in runner-up place. The Primary School Category 2 winner was Sophia Zipoli from CBS Wexford with runner up Kate O’Gorman from the Mercy national school, John’s Road.
Ciara Sharp from Gorey Community School was the winner in the Junior Certificate Category while the runner-up was Alicia Fortune from the Presentation secondary school, Wexford.
The Leaving Certificate and Overall Winner was Alannah Brennan from Gorey Com- munity School with runner-up Doireann Cullen also from Gorey Community School.
The winners, runners-up and finalists received an engraved trophy and art materials from Spectrum Art & Framing in Selskar, Wexford. The art work of the four winners will be kept on display in the hotel.
Primary and secondary school students around the county entered the free competition which is now in its fourth year with 20 finalists chosen across four categories in ages ranging from 5-18 years. The artwork was exhibited in the hotel during Wexford Opera Festival and was praised by international guests staying in the hotel as well as artists who had festival shows in the Talbot. Paul Carr said it was a great opportunity to showcase the young talent and creativity of County Wexford and everyone was amazed by the calibre of the candidates. Anyone wishing to collect their artwork can call to the Talbot Hotel Wexford any day from 9am to 5.30pm up to Friday, November 16.
