Red Mills Future Champion unraced stake final is highlight of the week

-

THE FEATURE event of the year at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track - The Red Mills Future Champion unraced stake final - will be the hightlight this week.

And it’s a very tough race to call as a case could be made for several of the finalists, but I will stick with my original choice in Killer Bee to win out.

Last week’s semi-finals saw the Comerford brothers from Naas, Co. Kildare, share the spoils.

The first semi saw Aiden’s Jazz Beat show good determination to get the bend and he opened up down the back to draw clear of Droopy’s Bee. The gap was never closed and Jazz ran out a clearcut six lengths winner in a good 28.92.

This fellow is trained by Peter Cronin who has a good record at the Enniscorthy track and will probably start favourite as a result.

Killer Bee, owned by Peter, has also been impressive even though he has yet to get a clear run, and he could do so this time as he is drawn just outside Jazz and could track nicely to the bend and be in prime position to power home from there.

That’s what he did after taking a bump from traps and getting shuffled back to near last in his semi off the second bend before he went between dogs at the third bend and raced clear on the run to the line to score by five and a half lengths in a good 29.02.

He is the fastest dog in the race in my opinion, but can he get a clear run? If not he will find it a tough ask to catch the well-drawn Jazz Beat in what promises to be a top race.

Trap draw: 1, Ballinaboola Gin; 2, Milking It; 3, Jazz Beat; 4, Killer Bee; 5, Jaytee Sienna; 6, Droopys Bee.

The Unlucky Manuka Man is the star in the Red Mills Plate final. He has recorded faster times than those in the big final and was so unlucky to be eliminated from the main event, but this is a nice race to win.

We should hear a lot more of this fellow into the future. Also owned by Peter Comerford and Tony Moore, he could make it a memorable night for the Naas men.
