Carmody grabs winner for Glynn

Division2

Leaders Glynn Barntown fought back from the concession of an early goal to pick up the three points against Crossabeg on Sunday.

Barry Coughlan fired Crossabeg in front with just two minutes on the clock, but the table-toppers were back on level terms midway through the half when Kevin Carmody’s dangerous ball across the face of goal was deflected into his own net by a Crossabeg defender.

Glynn Barntown controlled much of the second period and got their reward when Seán Carmody struck a 25-yard free-kick into the bottom corner of the net.

Ferns United joined Adamstown in second place by inflicting the first defeat of the season on their rivals. Ivan Meegan (two) and Robert Vickers got the goals for the winners, with Conor Hickey replying for Adamstown.

Taghmon United edged out Curracloe by the odd goal in five, with Joey Cardiff, Pascal Waters and Adam Sinnott hitting the back of the net for the winners.

Kerill Sutton and Stephen McGuire got the goals for the seasiders.

A late Willie Dobbs penalty earned Enniscorthy United their second win of the campaign as they saw off Cushinstown 4-3 in a thriller. Goals from Niall Thorpe, Conor Heffernan and Dillon Redmond helped the Enniscorthy outfit to a 3-1 advantage but Cushinstown drew level, with Nicky Sinnott (two) and Jimmy Whelan getting their goals. However, Dobbs had the final say when he held his nerve to tuck away a late spot-kick.

Kieran Kelly was the match-winner for Shelburne United, netting the only goal of the game as they edged out Killenagh Wanderers.
