Adamstown native Kevin Doyle has been named in Gerry Smith’s Republic of Ireland Under-20 squad for the forthcoming World Championships in the United Arab Emirates.
Doyle has earned his place in the final 20 after impressive performances for Ireland, scoring goals against the Czech Republic and Italy, as well as continuing to shine for his club, Cork City.
Ireland will face Saudi Arabia on November 29 before clashing with the Ivory Coast three days later, and completing their group games against Mexico on December 5.
Doyle joined Cork City this year from St. Patrick’s Athletic, liking up again with his old boss, Pat Dolan, in the process. He has already proven a big hit on Leeside, where he has mainly been playing on the right wing rather than in his preferred position of striker.
The young Wexford man is being widely tipped for a bright future in the game, and may in time make a move cross-channel.
