Festive magic is in the air as Enniscorthy’s Christmas lights are switched on
CHRISTMAS COMES TO TOWN AS SANTA OFFICIALLY TURNS ON ENNISCORTHY’S CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
CHRISTMAS officially came to Enniscorthy and was embraced with plenty of festive cheer on Saturday as young and old gathered in the Market Square for the big switch-on of the Christmas Lights.
There was a wonderful buzz about town as people gathered decked out in their recently dusted-off Christmas jumpers specially for the occasion. Most of the excitement was reserved for catching a glimpse of the big man himself - Santa Claus - who was accompanied by his good lady Mrs Claus in their sleigh which was flanked by town representatives including Chairman of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council Willie Kavanagh, who was quick to tell him how good the boys and girls of the area have been in the build up to the festive season.
The sleigh was part of a special Christmas parade in conjunction with Santa’s Enchanted Castle which has seen the historic Enniscorthy landmark transformed into a winter wonderland until December 23. The venture has proved to be an extremely successful one with over 750 overnight stays and 5,000 admission tickets booked in advance of it’s opening at the weekend. Santa and Mrs Claus were accompanied by some much-loved Disney characters on the night and will be for the duration of Christmas period at the Castle.
Among the entertainment offered at the switch-on were arts and crafts for the kids, a performance from the ukulele group and the parade before Santa, with some special helpers, officially pushed the plunger illuminating the whole town centre. A lot of work went into erecting the Christmas lights and it all paid off as town was lit up following an enthusiastic countdown from the crowd.
