S.B.R. A.C.
Sliabh Buidhe Rovers A.C. were delighted to be awarded best athletics club in Wexford at the inaugural South East Radio sports awards in the Riverside Hotel in Enniscorthy on Thursday. Former world 5,000m champion Eamonn Coghlan and RTE presenter Michael Lyster were on hand to make the presentations.
S.B.R. will play host to the County Wexford Intermediate cross-country championships next Sunday (December 2). The event will take place at Newtown, Ferns, and it will be on the same course as was used for the 2017 Wexford Senior cross-country championships - many thanks to Vesty O’ Neill for the use of his land.
Directions to the venue: in Ferns village, take the Carnew road at Doyle’s pub, then after a quarter of a mile veer off to the left, and the race parking will be located on your left-hand side a further half mile up the road.
The ladies’ race over 4k will be first off at 12 noon and will then be followed by the men’s 8k race.
The second anniversary of the Gorey Parkrun took place last Saturday morning and there were three S.B.R. athletes in action at the event that was very well attended.
Eugene Doherty and Ian McQuillan both had good runs, placing well up in the top ten which was dominated by Croghan athletes. Claire Gibbons also had a good race.
Paul Gibbons and Denis Moynihan were in Dublin on Sunday to take part in the All-Ireland Senior cross-country championships. This race was also the selection trial for the upcoming European championships in Holland and, needless to say, it was extremely fast and the competition hot, with the two S.B.R. runners completing the 10k course in good fashion.
