SOCCER NEWS

The weekend of the 17th/ November 18 was the best for St Cormac’s so far this season with five wins and one draw recorded by the various teams. Phil Christophi was delighted that the Youths’ team finally found form and recorded a season’s best performance at home to Gorey Celtic. A revamped lineup saw the players give it all and the management plenty of thought for future selections. Nathan Dickson put them ahead early in play with a great header. Liam Walsh waltzed throught the defence for our second and then, early in the second half, Nathan and Liam scored another goal each. Tom Fitzgerald joined in the scoring spree with two late goals for a 6-0 win. The tireless Pádraig Moran was the man-of-the-match.

The under-13s, also at home, overcame Caim by 3-0. Abram O’Neill was first to score and Cormac Walsh smashed home the second just before the break. Alex Keegan put the game beyond Caim with stylish third goal for a team that showed great passing and decisive tackling throughout the game.

On Sunday the 18th. the ladies’ team beat Shelbourne by 7-1. Aoife Walsh started the scoring 15 minutes into the game and added her second within five minutes. Rachel Breen connected on a corner kick for the third goal and Lorraine O’Connor’s overhead kick shortly afterwards was the score of the game. Lorraine added her second just before the break to leave our girls 5-0 up for the first half. Shelbourne showed their determination early in the second half and pulled a goal back only to have Claudia Doyle and Kate Cullen more than cancel out their score. This win keeps the ladies’ team on top of their division.

The Men’s ‘A’ team travelled to New Ross to take on Ross Celtic and came home with a point from a 2-2 draw. A free kick from Mick Sweeney and a late penalty from Jamie Dempsey-Doyle sandwiched Ross’s two goals. Brian O’Loughlin and Eoin Murphy starred from start to finish in this tough game.

The ‘B’ team, at home to Enniscorthy United, got their season back on the right track with a hard fought 2-1 win. The sides were scoreless at the break and Ray O’Brien put us ahead from a rebound early after the restart. United drew level with only 15 minutes remaining and Ray connected on a great pass from Seán Walsh for his second score near the end.
