€3,000 raised for St Patrick’s during Three Legends 6km run
THERESA CASH, Joe Cash and Tony Wickham were three faces that could regularly be seen out running and taking part in marathons and races all over the country, and they were well and truly remembered in Davidstown recently as people came from all over to take part in The Three Legends 6k.
The run was the brainchild of Donie Colfer who decided it was a fitting way to remember three legends with Davidstown roots.
‘ Tony, Joe and Theresa always raised money for charity through their running,’ he explained.
‘ Tony in particular did a lot for St Patrick’s Special School and we decided they were the ideal cause to benefit.
‘ To me, all three are legends for the races they ran and the marathons they did and that’s where we got the name.’
While initially, it was Donie’s plan to have around 60 people hit the road on the 6k course, with a fundraising goal of around €1,000 set in his mind, he was blown away by the response and was delighted to greatly exceeded his expectations.
‘It was a fantastic day and people came from all over,’ he said.
‘ We were blessed with the turnout and blessed with the weather. The whole thing went even better than I thought it would.
‘We had 115 people took part on the day and in the end we raised just over €3,000, which we’re delighted with.’
The money raised will no doubt be put to great use as staff and students of St Patrick’s get set to move into their new state of the art school building next year.
Donie wished to thank everyone who took part and played any part in the event’s success, particularly Olympic who provided great support.
Donie said that given the success of the Three Legends run and walk, it is hoped it might just become an annual occurrence on the roads around Davidstown.
