-

WITH beautiful twinkling lights now shining right across town, Christmas has officially come to Enniscorthy and it’s time to embrace the festive season! A huge effort has gone into illuminating the town this year and the streets were transformed into a winter wonderland as Santa officially pushed the plunger at the Big Switch- On.

A great occasion in town, the switch-on saw plenty of activities for the little ones, as well as the official opening of Santa’s Enchanted Castle which is something that has taken on a life of its own in the past couple of years.

Ahead of its opening this year, the event in Enniscorthy’s Historic Castle had already seen over 750 overnight stays and over 5,000 admission tickets booked - a phenomenal achievement and a mark of just how highly it is now thought of. With Santa’s Enchanted Castle running in town until December 23, it is hoped that it will bring an all-important influx of Christmas shoppers into the town and that local traders will experience a bumper festive season this year.

There’s also magic in the air at Kilcannon Garden Centre once again this year as they officially opened their Winter Wonderland on Sunday. Once again, kids and parents will have the opportunity to step into a magical Christmas world and get to meet the big man himself at Santa’s Grotto.

With the Christmas atmosphere now in full swing in Enniscorthy, people are reminded to try their best to shop local where possible.

While the temptation might be to sit, plonked behind a laptop and do your Christmas shopping with a few deft clicks, there’s nothing very magical about that is there? Instead, why not try embrace some of the magic of Christmas. Enjoy some nice hot food or a hot chocolate at one of Enniscorthy’s many fine cafés and restaurants. Take the kids to see Santa at Kilcannon or the Castle. Take in the Christmas lights as you pick up the ideal stocking-fillers for your loved ones; and even make sure you’re well kitted out with a nice big turkey and plenty of sweet treats for Christmas day. All of these are things that can be done on your doorstep in Enniscorthy town centre.
