PARISH CHRISTMAS DRAW

The annual Christmas Draw in aid of St Patrick’s Church, Oulart will take place as usual this year and tickets will be distribute­d shortly.

CIVIC RECEPTION

On Wednesday, November 28, The all-Ireland winning Wexford Senior Hurlers of 1968, The Wexford Minor Hurlers and the Wexford Senior camogie team of that historic year were honoured by the chairman of Wexford County Council, councillor Keith Doyle at a Civic Reception in the Co. Hall. Michael and Christy Jacob (senior), Tom Byrne (Minor Captain) and Paddy O’Connor (minor) were honoured as was Margaret Leacy (Camogie).

The former star players were presented with a hand-made pen in a specially designed wooden case, bearing the county Council logo while the team captains received a fused-glass trophy.

OULART ICA

Well done to Marie Poiritt, who represente­d Oulart ICA at the Christmas Table-Centre competitio­n, in the Riverbank Hotel last week and was declared the winner. The next meeting of the Oulart Guild has been brought forward a week, to December 10 New members are always welcome to join Oulart ICA.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

The annual Oulart senior citizens Party will be held in the community centre on Sunday, January 6 (Lá Nollag na mBan or ‘Little Christmas). If you know of any Seniors (over-65s) in the locality whose name should be added to the list of invitees please inform Seán Byrne (087 6486279) or Eddie O’Grady (087 2771735) or any member of the committee.

SOPHIA FUND

Joan Kavanagh will hold a raffle and music night in Bob’s Bar, The Ballagh on December 8 and another music night and raffle in Corrigan’s, Blackwater on December 14. On a date to be confirmed, Joan’s grand-daughter, Leona will have her beautiful long hair cut for Sophia’s fund and also for the Rapunzel Foundation.

OULART SOPRANO ON TOUR

Oulart Soprano, Róisín O’Grady along with Eamon Sweeney (on lute and baroque guitar), perform under the name ‘Tonos’. They perform little known baroque music from the 16th and 17th century, from around Europe and Ireland. This latest Tour sees them perform music with a Christmas theme. They launched their CD, Wintersong, in the Mermaid Arts Centre in November and their Tour locations include UL Limerick, Ardee, Dublin, Cork, Athenry, Clonmel and Kilkenny. RACE TO BE MAYOR

The GAA Mayoral Election Campaign is well under way and the next few weeks will see lots of fundraisin­g activities organised for the candidates.

Thank you to everyone for the massive support over the last few weeks from club members, their families and parishione­rs for lots of fundraisin­g events. On last Saturday night week November 24 there was a Talent Contest in Oulart Hill Bar which was an amazing showcase of wonderful local talent Well done to all the participan­ts and especially to the winners. On Sunday the 25ththe Sunday Lunch was delicious with a wonderful display of desserts made by members of Phil Redmond’s Mayoral Campaign Team and on Sunday evening the weekend finished with bingo which was also very well supported. A lot of work and a huge commitment from Phil Redmond’s Mayoral Campaign Team made the weekend a huge success. On December 9 and 16 Phil’s team will hold bingo. As this year is the 25th Anniversar­y of Oulart-The Ballagh winning their first Senior Hurling Title (1994) Phil’s team will launch a Souvenir Calendar in Oulart Community Centre on Saturday, December 15.

Sponger Fortune’s Mayoral Campaign Team are also working very hard and they have been out and about selling tickets. Last Saturday night, their ‘Come Dine with Me’ was a huge success and a again a big thank you to all our hosts on the night. Everyone enjoyed themselves then went for an after meal get-together in Bob’s Bar, The Ballagh. And if you want to buy a real Christmas Tree to support Sponger’s Mayoral campaign, please place your order with Declan at 087 3456523, Tom at 087 6138210 or Martin at 087 9001220. The 6-foot trees sell at €30. Christmas Wreaths are also available at €8 each, two for €15 and three for €20.

It is marvellous to see such wonderful Community Spirit. Long may it continue.

CAMOGIE CLUB AGM

A big thank you to all who attended the camogie AGM on Friday November 23 in the Top Complex. Geraldine Doyle, chairperso­n gave a detailed report on the past year and thanked everyone for all the work that was done by the committee, Managers, mentors and first aiders during the year. The club is going well but that they would welcome more people who might join in and help for the coming season. Kathyrn O’Dowd gave a secre- tary’s report as did joint treasurer Caroline Howlin.

The officers were elected were as follows. President-Jimmy Bolger, Vice-chairperso­ns-Mary and Eddie O’Grady, chairman-Arthur Quinn, Vice-chairperso­ns – Patrick Fortune and Geraldine Doyle, secretary – Kathryn O’Dowd, Assistant secretary-Brendan Pettitt, joint treasurers-Caroline Howlin and Josie Sinnott, PRO-Elizabeth Freeman and Tina Rossiter, Child Protection and First Aid-Bridget Mora and Registrati­on-Pauline Moore. Best of luck to all the committee and a huge welcome to the new officers. Registrati­on will be in early February in conjunctio­n with Coiste na nÓg.

COISTE NA NÓG

Coiste na nÓg had their end of year of meeting on Wednesday last, November 28, in the Top Complex at 8.30 p.m. There was an excellent attendance with lots of positive discussion about plans for the coming year. Chair. Elizabeth Freeman thanked all parents/guardians, managers, mentors and first aiders for all the work that was done with the underage boys and all the time that was give to training and going to matches.

Club chairperso­n Bartle Sinnott thanked all the members Coiste na nÓg, the trainers, mentors and managers and wished them the best of luck for 2019. 2018 had been a good year for the teams with the under-13s winning the inagural under-13 Premier Championsh­ip, the Permier Rackard League Hurling and Roinn ‘C’ Rackard League Football. The under-15s had gone as far as the county semi-final, having topped their division in the championsh­ip and our uU-17s got to the Division 1 county final. Our under-sevens to under-11s all competed in Go Games and had a great year as well. The committee for 2019 is as follows: chairperso­n-Elizabeth Freeman, secretary-Eveleen O’Sullivan, Assistant secretary – Aodhagán Swords, Coaching Officiers – Ray Harris and Shane Reddy.

MARTIN STOREY TOURNAMENT

Well done to the under-14 hurlers and their mentors on their great win against Rapparees (two goals 12 points to one goal seven points), in the semi-final on Sunday, December 2. The Tournament finals will be played in Oulart on Sunday, December 9.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratula­tions to the most recent winner of Scoil Mochua’s split-the-pot – Daniel Sinnott – who won €143. Entry envelopes are available from local businesses and from the school.

SCOUTS CAKE SALE

Oulart Scouts would like to thank everyone who donated and supported their recent cake sale. The proceeds amounted to €635.
