Enniscorthy man to face assault charges in the District Court

-

JUDGE Gerard Haughton agreed to accept jurisdiction in a case which saw an Enniscorthy man charged with assault causing harm following an incident at Donoghue’s of the Duffry on St Stephen’s Day of 2016.

Francis Farnan ( 35) of 27 Andy Doyle Close was charged with assault causing harm to John Cloke at the landmark pub.

Solicitor John Burke O’Leary pointed out that the case was listed for the Judge to decide whether the matter should go ahead in the District Court or be sent forward for trial at the Circuit Court.

After asking for the alleged facts of the case, Sgt Mairead Brophy said that CCTV footage appeared to show the defendant pushing the injured party out of the pub and striking him several times in the face before throwing him to the ground.

The court heard that the injured party was left bleeding heavily and with an injury to his left arm.

Believing that no permanent damage was caused to the injured party, Judge Haughton opted to accept jurisdiction in the case and he adjourned it until March 6 for a plea or a hearing date.
