Gala race night for Wexford Hospice

- By BRENDAN KEANE

PEOPLE from all over the county converged on Enniscorthy Greyhound Track to attend an event organised to raise money for Wexford Hospice Homecare Service ( WHHS).

The Gala Benefit Race night attracted a very big crowd to the venue - much to the delight of the organisers.

The size of the crowd was indicative of the high regard in which the hospice organisation is regarded all over the county.

A significant aspect to such fundraising events is that all of the money raised locally stays local which means it will be used to enable the organisation to continue its invaluable service to people throughout Wexford.

The organisation was set up in 1991 by a voluntary committee to provide a specialist palliative care service.

That service is provided by specialist nurses and while it receives an annual subvention from the HSE it’s very reliant on voluntary donations from the public and fundraising events like the one in Enniscorthy to enable it to keep providing its important service to the people of Wexford.
