A festive fundraiser for St Patrick’s Special School

-

THE festive atmosphere was well and truly present at St Patrick’s Special School recently as they hosted their annual Christmas Craft Fair. A new school building has been the Christmas wish of everyone involved with the school for quite some time, and with work well and truly way at the Drumgoold site, the fundraising continued to ensure it is kitted out to the very highest standard.

An annual event, the Craft Fair always gets wonderful support from the local community in Enniscorthy and this year was no different as people filed in to pick up some lovely stocking-fillers and some beautiful Christmas crafts, all while showing support for the school. There were over 30 different exhibitors on the day and as well as that, the man himself - Santa Claus - also put in an appearance to ensure that the boys and girls were all set for Christmas.

One of several fundraisers taking place for the school recently, the fair raised a whopping €2,547, a figure which Principal Lee Rogers was delighted with.

‘The craft fair saw a lot of work put in from the parents association, particularly Ken and Catherine Cloke,’ he said. ‘We had a great crowd over the course of the day and we were delighted with the amount raised. The St Patrick’s Penny Bank also had a bucket out for us as they finished up and that raised a further €900. All of this money is going to be invested in installing a hydrotherapy pool in the new school, which will be a fantastic asset to our students with mobility issues. It will make us one of only three schools in the country to have this facility.’

Mr Rogers wished to thank everyone who helped organise, attended or contributed in any way to recent fundraising efforts and is looking forward to a bright future for the school in Drumgoold.
