VEHICLES LIGHT UP NIGHT
PARTS of the N11 could nearly have been seen from space on Saturday night as an array of some 240 vehicles decked out in all manner of festive fairy lights made their way from Oylegate into Enniscorthy.
The ‘Light Up The Night Road Run’ organised by Oylegate Vintage Club encouraged owners of tractors, trucks and classic cars to make their vehicles look as Christmassy as possible and they did not disappoint.
Participants travelled from all over Wexford and further afield to take part, many of them going to great lengths to ensure their tractors and trucks were completely decked out in Christmas lights.
It made for quite the spectacle as the 240 cars, tractors and trucks hit the road, lit up like Christmas trees, before doing a spin around Enniscorthy and making a quick stop on the Promenade to allow families to come along and take a look.
‘We had a great crowd,’ said Oylegate Vintage Club chairman Henry Cosgrave. ‘ There was great support the whole way along. When we got to Ennsicorthy, there were a lot of people standing on the bridge there and a few of the lads went up and back down by the Cathedral, while the rest went the back way around town. We pulled up on the Prom then and there was a great feel-good factor there.’
The event, taking place in aid of Pieta House Wexford, was a huge success and Henry is extremely grateful to all who got involved.
‘We’d like to thank the gardaí in particular for helping us out,’ he said. ‘As well as that we’d like to thank everyone who helped out, our stewards and everyone who took part on the night.’
While the final amount raised is still being tallied, Henry is hopeful that the total raised for Pieta House will be in the region of €9,500.
The hope now is to make this an annual event and December 7, 2019, has already been pencilled in as the next outing for the run.
