Boys and girls put up a good fight at sparring tournament in Craanford
Young boys and girls put up a great fight at the under age sparring tournament showcase held in Craanford Sports Complex last week.
Organised by the newly founded Craanford Boxing Club, the exhibition showcase included clubs from all over county Wexford – St Aidan’s Boxing Club Ferns, Bunclody Boxing, St Michael’s New Ross, Sacre Coeur Boxing Club Enniscorthy and Craanford Boxing Club. It was all sponsored by Gorey Garda Siochana.
Children aged between six and 11 years took part in the exhibition bouts, cheered on by their family and friends.
Shirley Kenny of Craanford Boxing Club said it was a fantastic day with 48 children taking part in 24 bouts. Each boxer was presented with a medal and a certificate from a member from An Garda Siochana.
‘We had the best day, the hall was full of people,’ added Shirley. ‘We will definitely run it again next year in January.’
Craanford Boxing Club was set up by head coach Darragh Kenny. The club meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 7 p.m., until 9.30 p.m., in Craanford Sports Complex. Shirley said all are welcome to join, for more information call Darragh on 087 655 4974.
