CHOIR PRACTICE

A Choir Practice, in preparation for Christmas, will be held in St Mochua’s Chapel, on Wednesday, December 12, beginning at 8 p.m. All singers are welcome and encouraged to attend.

CHURCH CHRISTMAS DRAW

The annual Christmas Draw in aid of St Patrick’s Church, Oulart will take place on Sunday, December 23. The tickets have been distributed to the houses in the parish, and as this is the only fundraiser for St Patrick’s Church, for the year, your generous support would be greatly appreciated. Tickets are only €2 each or a book of three for €5. There are 14 valuable prizes to be won, including a Christmas Hamper, €100 cash, five Bags of Coal Nuggets, €50 cash, Vouchers for Corrigans and Pierce Redmond, a Róisín O’Grady CD as well as the usual seasonal prizes. Tickets should be returned to the Parochial House or to Pierce Redmond’s by Saturday, December 22.

CHRISTMAS IN THE CHURCHES

The Advent Penance Service will be held on Sunday, December 23, at 6.30 p.m. in the Ballagh and at 7.30 p.m. in Oulart. The Christmas arrangements for Masses are as follows: Mass on Christmas Eve will be celebrated in the Ballagh at 7.30 p.m. and in Oulart at 9 p.m. Christmas Day Mass in Oulart will be at10 a.m. and in the Ballagh at 11 a.m. Holy Communion will be brought to the sick and housebound in the Ballagh on Wednesday, December 19, at 10 a.m. and in Oulart on Friday the 21st at 9.30 a.m.

SCHOOLS CAROL SERVICE

The pupils of Scoil Mochua will present carols in St Patrick’s Church on Wednesday the 19th at 7.30 p.m. while the school-children from the Ballagh will hold their Carol Service on Thursday the 20th at 7.30 p.m.

TALENT SHOW

The Oulart Hill Lounge was the venue for ‘Show us your Talent’ competition, organised by the team of Mayoral candidate, Phil Redmond, on Saturday night, November 24. Upwards of 14 acts performed and following the counting of audience votes, The Murphy Sisters (Michelle, Anne-Marie, Lisa and Linda) were declared the winners, having delighted the huge attendance with their rendition of ‘Black is the Colour’. They along with four other qualifying acts (Phil Redmond, Karen Atkinson-Sinnott, Kerri Wickham and Cormac Finn) will go forward to the final against a similar number of contestants from ‘Sponger’s’ heat of the competition which will take place, at a date to be announced.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

The annual Oulart senior citizens Party will be held in the community centre on Sunday, January 6 (Lá Nollag na mBan or ‘Little Christmas). If you know of any Seniors (over-65s) in the locality whose name should be added to the list of invitees please inform Seán Byrne (087 6486279) or Eddie O’Grady (087 2771735) or any member of the committee.

GET WELL WISHES

Best wishes for a speedy return to full health to the people from the area who are sick at home or in hospital. For security reasons and to maintain their privacy, their names will not be published unless requested by themselves or their next-of-kin. Don’t forget that on the First Friday of every month, (December 7) the Rosary will be recited in St Mochua’s Church, at 7.30 p.m. for the intentions of the sick of the parish. Everyone is welcome to attend.

RACE TO BE MAYOR

The GAA Mayoral Election Campaign is well under way and the next few weeks will see lots of fundraising activities organised for the candidates.

On Sunday, December 16, Phil’s team will hold bingo. As this year is the 25th Anniversary of Oulart-The Ballagh winning their first Senior Hurling Title (1994) Phil’s team will launch a Souvenir Calendar in Oulart Community Centre on Saturday, December 15. And if you want to buy a real Christmas Tree to support Sponger’s Mayoral campaign, please place your order with Declan at 087 3456523, Tom at 087 6138210 or Martin at 087 9001220. The 6foot trees sell at €30. Christmas Wreaths are also available at €8 each, two for €15 and three for €20.

SPLIT-THE-POT

Congratulations to the most recent winner of Scoil Mochua’s split-the-pot – Patrick Roche – who won €130. Entry envelopes are available from local businesses and from the school.

PEACE LIGHT

The 22nd Wexford Scout Group, Oulart will bring the Peace Light to Oulart Village just before Christmas and it will be in St Mochua’s Chapel on Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd.

The Light will be taken from the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem and travel across the world by rail, boat and air and arrive in Dublin on Friday the 21st from where one of our local Scouters will collect a light and bring it to Oulart. The light will be available after Masses on the Saturday and Sunday and people are invited to bring home a light to their homes, for Christmas. Full details of the story of the Peace Light can be had by contacting any of the Scout leaders.

MARTIN STOREY TOURNAMENT

Oulart-The Ballagh were very proud to host the three finals of the very successful Martin Storey Tournament on Sunday, December 2. 18 teams took part in the Tournament and the feedback was fantastic. The weather was kind and the rain held off for the morning.

St Mary’s’s Rosslare played a thrilling match beating Crossabeg-Ballymurn in the Red final in extra time. Our own boys played St Anne’s in the Black Final, playing very well but St Ann’s were just that little bit stronger on the day. The Gold final was won by the Shelmaliers, who beat Glynn-Barntown in another exciting match.

A massive big thank you to all the clubs who entered in the tournament and played matches for seven weeks giving over 400 boys lots of game time. Special thanks to Willie Cleary from the Co. Board and to Ray Harris for his input and especially to Martin Storey for presenting the medals to the winner and to the chairman of the club Bartle Sinnott and the club committee for their support.

GAA CLUB AGM

The Oulart-The Ballagh AGM was held in Oulart Community Centre on Friday, November 30, and was very well attended meeting with over 100 members turning up on the night. There was lots of discussion about the year ahead and the new committee is as follows. Chair-Bartle Sinnott, Vice-chairpersons-Martin Dempsey and Peter Kennedy. Secretary-Niamh Sinnott, Assistant secretary-Noel Doyle. Treasurer-Martin Redmond and Vice-treasurer-Geraldine Doyle. Irish Officer-Breda Jacob. PRO Elizabeth Freeman. Children’s Officer-Adam Nolan. Co. Board Rep. Peter Kennedy and Ger Doyle. Health and Wellbeing-Breda Flood.

CAMOGIE

Hard luck to our under-18 camogie girls, who were beaten by St Martin’s in the county final last Saturday, December 1. The girls had trained well all year and did themselves proud as they played a great match against a strong team who were a little more experienced on the day. The final score was 3-7 to 2-7 and it was hard for our girls were very unlucky to lose by one goal in the dying seconds of the game.

GAA CLUB LOTTO

The club run the lotto every two weeks to pay for the running of the club and for the upkeep of the pitches. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to support the lotto by selling a book of six tickets for €10, book of 12 for €20 and be in with a chance of winning €9,600 plus five lucky-dip winners of €30 each draw. This is necessary way of making money to keep our club running Please support our club by taking a lotto book every two weeks for the benefit of the club and our young players in the future. Next draw Monday, December 17, in Marty’s Bar.

MONSTER BINGO

There will be a Monster Bingo game in the community centre in Oulart on Sunday, December 16, at 8 p.m. There will be over €1,000 in prizes with ‘sit-beside’ prizes and spot prizes also on offer.
