Blow for Templeshannon as Toss Kavanagh’s pub closes its doors

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

THERE was a bitter blow for Templeshannon and Enniscorthy as a whole last week as Toss Kavanagh’s pub closed its doors on Tuesday afternoon.

Under the management of popular publican Fintan Kelly, the bar had a loyal local clientele and was renowned for live music, particularly during the town’s festivals.

Having taken over the pub nine years ago, Fintan lamented that things had come to this point and said that mounting costs in recent years had really made the situation untenable.

‘I have great memories there from over the years,’ he said. ‘It’s devastating that it’s come to this, but things have been getting harder and harder in the last few years. It’s unfortunate timing, but that’s just the way it goes. I’ve no real plans from here, bar to try and enjoy Christmas with my family and to see what happens in the New Year.’

Having had some great times in the land- mark pub in recent years, Fintan wished to thank his patrons for their support.

‘I’d like to thank all of our loyal customers over the years for their support, it really meant the world,’ he said.

While the future of the building is cur- rently unclear, Fintan says that its likely that someone else could take over, but for him it’s the end of the road. Tributes poured in on social media for the popular publican and his staff, as the people of the area mourned the loss of a favourite local haunt.
