ENNISCORTHY CREDIT UNION ART WINNERS HONOURED
WHILE plenty of people arrive at Enniscorthy Credit Union to draw down their loans, drawing of a different kind was in mind at the Abbey Square building recently as staff and management presented certificates and prizes to the local winners in this year’s All Ireland Art Competition.
The theme this year was ‘ The Force of Nature’ and it encouraged participants to start thinking green by depicting their visions of clean, pollution and litter free environment. There was great excitement at the credit union as winners were presented with their certificates and prizes of art supplies and they will now go on to compete at regional level, and hopefully make it as far as the national awards in Dublin’s Croke Park.
This is the 35th year of the art competition, open to kids from 7 to 18 years, and each year, there is almost 30,000 entries nationwide through more than 200 participating credit unions. Acting Manager at Enniscorthy Credit Union Liam Waters and Marketing Manager Aine Doyle were delighted to present the local winners with their prizes and said that the standard this year was incredibly high, with over 300 entries.
Following much deliberation, the winners were announced as follows. In the 7 years and under category, Niamh Kehoe of Clongeen NS came out on top, followed by Cathal Cullen of Clongeen NS and Sarah Quigley from Oylegate NS. In the 8 - 10 years category, Molly Byrne from St Colman’s NS in Ballindaggin scooped the top prize, followed by Adam Phylan of Caim NS and Emma Reville of Clongeen NS. In the 11 - 13 years section, Emily Deacon of St Mary’s NS came first, followed by Niall Byrne of Oylegate NS in second and Sarah Phylan of Caim NS in third. The winner of the special category award was Jim Byrne of Bree, who has won first prize for the last two years running.
The staff and management of Enniscorthy Credit Union wished to thank everyone who entered and wished the winners all the very best as they go forward to the regional section of the competition.
