International ref joins youth group for Christmas carols!
MONAGEER Foroige Youth Club embraced the Christmas Spirit recently, as they lent their voices to a special fundraiser for the homeless across Co Wexford.
The group hosted a special Christmas Carol Service in Monageer Hall which saw those in attendance welcomed into a beautifully decorated winter wonderland. Once inside, they were treated to performances from the talented youngsters, singing solos, playing instruments and singing collectively as a group. Patrons were also encouraged to pick up some raffle tickets with great prizes up for grabs and there were also delicious sweet treats with a bake sale and hot drinks served.
All of the young members also played their own part by bringing in shoe boxes with gifts for the homeless and they also managed to fill two trolleys with food collected by Aislin De Bhallis on the night for distribution to those in need across the county.
There was also a very special guest on the night in the form of internationally renowned FIFA ref Michelle O’Neill. Michelle is the first ref for Ireland ever to officiate at a World Cup Final, having overseen the women’s U21 World Cup Finals in France earlier this year. She is also set to be busy in 2019, where she will officiate at the Senior Women’s World Cup Finals and she was more than happy to chat to the youngsters on the night and congratulated them on their magnificent community spirit.
A huge thank you went out to Ms Fiona Keegan who helped with the planning of the show in recent weeks, as well as Catherine Thackaberry, all of the Foroige leaders and those who generously sponsored prizes on the night. The group finished up by wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas and a very happy New Year.
