A night to remember at ‘Sive’

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

A true classic came to life on the Presentation Centre stage recently as Blackstairs Mountain Theatre presented ‘Sive’ by John B Keane.

Under the directorship of Jimmy Kavanagh, a talented cast breathed new life into a raw and riveting drama which tells the tale of a beautiful young schoolgirl who is forced into an arranged marriage to a rich and lecherous old man.

The story in many ways examines a clash of cultures, amid the backdrop of a love story littered with heartache and pain.

The play gained some rave reviews, with people travelling from far and wide to enjoy the three night run. There were some amazing performances over the course of the three nights, with Ellen O’Gorman excelling in the title role alongside Myles Mulally as Sean Dota.

Sive’s aunt and uncle were played by Peter Canning and Julie Fox who received unanimous praise for the passion they brought to their roles.

Madeline Breen had a challenge on her hands playing the role of Nanna, one which she passed with flying colours, while Anthony Finn was the perfect option to play young lover Liam Scuab.

The cast also included Anthony Finn, John O’Gorman, Murt and Jenny Murphy, completing a stellar line-up.

The cast and crew were delighted to receive standing ovations for the efforts and those in attendance will be closely watching to see when Blackstairs Mountain Theatre return to the stage with their next production in the New Year.

Everyone involved with the production, cast and crew, wished to thank those who came along and showed their support over the three memorable nights.
