Mairead’s Grace too strong for Piercestown
THERE was a very exciting race in the final of the Roban Financial Unraced stake last week at Enniscorthy and it was at the third bend the race was decided.
As traps rose it was trap three runner Nanny Nuala who set the fractions with Piercestown Mile in close contention going around the first bends with the wide running Mairead’s Grace coming into contention on the outside.
Down the back, Piercestown and Mairead’s made their challenge but the Nanny held the middle ground thus hampering Piercestown at the third bend.
Mairead’s Grace found keeping the wide course paid rich dividends and swept to the lead and while Piercestown changed course to the inside to go after Mairead’s.
He was closing all the way to the line but Mairead’s had got the run on him and was two and a half lengths to the good at the line for the Kildare owner and trainer Joe Horan and Fraser Black.
Racing will be on Friday night for the next few weeks for the Christmas period.
