FCJ students take a look to the future during careers evening
STUDENTS took a look to the future and potential careers at FCJ Bunclody, as the school hosted its second careers night. The event, for all 5th and 6th year students, provided a great opportunity for them to meet with over 60 professionals from a wide range of careers to discuss career paths, the journey to their current position and how things work in the working world.
The range of career options on display provided a prompt for many students to investigate some career options that they may not have already considered.
‘On consulting with my classmates, several people were drawn to careers like accounting, medicine, health and fitness and teaching; careers which they had not previously considered’ noted 5th year student Edward Kinsella.
‘ This new consideration was due not only to the information projected, but also the passion these men and women demonstrated in showcasing their careers, in addition to taking the time on top of their busy working day to come and inspire us up and coming entrants.’
Some of the country’s leading universities, such as DCU, the University of Limerick and NUI Maynooth were also represented on the night with information tables and representatives to answer questions.
Apprenticeship pathways were also highlighted, showcasing a growing number of apprenticeships which are now on offer.
The evening was of great benefit to the students, who were given the vital information to put some serious thought into their futures.
