Wishing 2019 will be fantastic for you all

- WITH CLAIR WHITTY

I hope that life has returned to normal for you, or at least as close to normal as can be. I do love this time of year, I think it is a great time to reflect on the year gone by, and to think about how the new one will be different. I love the sense of new beginnings and excitement.

Some of you will be making New Year resolutions with lots of promises to lose weight, to stop smoking, or to take up a new hobby, there are many promises that you can make, that’s the easy part, but keeping them can be difficult.

I used to make lists every year of what I would start doing and what I would stop doing. Inevitably I never followed through on my lists.

So I eventually stopped writing them. Mostly because I felt bad about not following through, I didn’t want to feel bad, so it was easier to stop writing lists and making promises. But, I miss my lists. I like having a goal, something to aim for, and who cares if my list wasn’t completed at least I had the best intentions. That surely counts for something. So, this year I decided to make a list again.

The list will include cutting out the usual suspects coffee, sugar, alcohol, and chocolate, they’ll need to go. Other years I try to stop these all together, all at the same time, no wonder I don’t succeed. So this year my promise is to cut back. I think that’s more sensible and achievable.

I would also like to make time to do something creative, maybe do some painting or knitting, I’m not sure, but I feel the need to do something artistic. Maybe do some creative writing, I haven’t done that in a while, as I’m writing now I realise I miss that. I need to get out in nature a bit more, and meet up with friends more often. Fulfilling these needs is so important because life should be about balance and harmony, I think we all deserve a bit of harmony.

What changes will you make this year? Happy New Year and the best of luck for 2019; I hope that it will be a fantastic year for you.
