Drink driver is banned and fined

-

DRINK driving at Vinegar Hill on July 2 last has resulted in a fine and a driving ban for Edward Murphy (49) of 48 Moran Park, Enniscorthy.

Murphy was present in court and, through his solicitor John Mernagh, he lodged a plea of guilty at the earliest possible opportunity.

The court heard that on the night in question, Murphy had returned a reading of 68mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, which is over three times the legal limit.

Mr Mernagh said that his client was 49 years old and lives with his elderly mother.

He said that the loss of his licence would have a major impact and asked the Judge to postpone any driving ban until March 15 to allow him to get his affairs in order.

Judge Haughton agreed to this and handed Murphy a €400 fine and a three year ban, postponed until March.
